What does IP68 mean?
Introduction
IP is the abbreviation of Ingress Protection. The IP rating is the protection level against foreign objects in the electrical equipment enclosure. The source is the International Electrotechnical Commission's standard IEC 60529, which was also adopted as the US national standard in 2004. In this standard, for the protection of foreign objects in the electrical equipment casing, the IP rating is IPXX, where XX is two Arabic numerals, the first number indicates the contact protection and the foreign object protection level, and the second number indicates the waterproof protection level. IP is the international code used to identify the protection level. The Ip level consists of two numbers. The first number indicates dust proofing; the second number indicates water resistance. The higher the number, the better the team length.
The relevant test basis in China is GB 4208-2008/IEC 60529-2001 "Shell protection grade (IP code)" standard requirements, the conformity assessment test for the enclosure protection grade of various products; the highest detection grade IP68. Regular product inspection levels include IP23, IP44, IP54, IP55, IP65, IP66, IP67, IP68.
The purpose of the test criteria is as follows:
- Specify the degree of enclosure protection specified by the electrical equipment load;
- Prevent the human body from accessing dangerous parts inside the casing;
- Prevent solid foreign matter from entering the equipment inside the casing;
- Prevents harmful effects on equipment due to water entering the enclosure.
IP protection level
The first digit indicates the dust indicator:
A code system that indicates the degree of protection that the enclosure is close to dangerous parts, prevents the entry of solid foreign objects or water, and additional information related to these guards.

IP68 definition
The IP68 is the highest level of connector waterproof rating. Everyone knows, look at the waterproof performance of the waterproof connector, mainly look at the two digits XX behind the IPXX, the first digit X is from 0 to 6, the highest level is 6; the second digit X is from 0 to 8, the highest level is 8; therefore the connector's highest waterproof rating is IP68. In other words, the IP68 connector is the highest standard waterproof connector.
There are many products in the market that claim that the waterproof rating of the connector reaches IP68. However, in the true sense, the IP68 connector with excellent sealing performance and safe and reliable quality is still relatively rare on the market. Some brands IP68 test standard is: put the connector product into the water depth of 10 meters, work for 2 weeks; put 100 meters water depth, damage test for 12 hours, still can maintain the good performance of the product.

This definition is rather vague. In fact, the test of ip68 waterproof level, its test equipment, test conditions and test time should be recognized by both the supply and demand sides, and its severity is naturally higher than any of the following levels. For example, some brands of waterproof connectors IP68 waterproof test is: ensure that the water depth of 10 meters, work for 2 weeks, without water; put 100 meters water depth, damage test for 12 hours, still can maintain good product performance.
